Developing Managers
The challenge: Our client’s stakeholders were worried that the MD’s autocratic management style was negatively affecting employee relations and the overall culture within the company. Unfortunately, the MD was reluctant to explore how coaching could help him and the business.
The approach: For coaching to succeed, we needed to get the MD to open up to the idea. We decided to meet away from site, removing day to day distractions and making the MD feel more comfortable. We discussed different management styles and approaches and encouraged him to explore his own approach, styles and behaviours, and look at how these impacted the business. This left him receptive to the idea of adapting his style to suit different situations.
The outcome: Feedback from managers shows the coaching has resulted in positive culture changes in the business. There is a stable working environment, and more training and development opportunities are provided for employees. These changes in leadership style have made the business better placed for commercial expansion and revenue growth.
